Folded Forms Media: Bone China & Stoneware Clays
Each individual form is hand built using bone china clay. Thinly rolled sheets of clay are folded, scrolled, assembled and fired to 1260°C in an electric kiln. Sizes range from 10cm to 38cm in height. I achieve translucency where the clay is particularly thin. Light and shadow, rhythm and flow pervade the work, giving a sense of movement within positive and negative space.
Instrumental music, plant growth and coastal seascape are important sources of inspiration. Colourful coiled stoneware vessels, with slips and printing of my drawings, can be seen as pieces in their own right or linked with the folded forms.
